Modern Slavery  includes  slavery, slavery like practices (forced marriage and sale or exploitation of children), human trafficking, forced labour and other practices described in the key international treaties listed above.

The significant characteristic of all forms of modern slavery is that it involves one person depriving another person of their freedom for profit. Their freedom to leave one job for another, their freedom to leave one workplace for another, their freedom to control their body. (page 6 of A United Faith Againts Modern Slavery Book)

In the World Slavery Index 2016, modern slavery is defined as a condition where a person can be exploited without rejecting or leave because of threats, violence, abuse of power and fraud, which causes the person to lose his freedom for the benefit of big bondage.

The term modern slavery include also children who do not go to school because they were forced to work or marry young, people who are forced to work because of debts, and women both old and adolescents who are forced to work as domestic servants without pay and treated inhumanely. Furthermore Forrest reveals, this declaration is a first step. The government will not be able to abolish slavery alone, so it needs the involvement of religious leaders.

"The existence of such religious leaders is certainly going to bring changes," said Forrest.
